Day 10: Consistency over perfection
I’ve taught this concept for years when it comes to habits and personal development, and it’s proving necessary for this writing month. Here are the ways it’s showing up:
Writing in the morning as much as possible, but flexing to the evening when I need to.
Hitting or surpassing my word count whenever I get good writing blocks in so that, on low-time/low-focus days, I have a buffer.
Focusing on getting a finished draft out the door rather than getting a perfect draft written.
Contributing to this blog as many days as possible, with a missed day okay when needed. This challenge is about writing a first draft, not about keeping a blog.
At the end of the day, I have to find something that works for the foreseeable future of my life. Something that fits in the space I have to give it, something that doesn’t completely drain me. Ideally, I’d start another draft on December 1st. This isn’t intended to be something I do once and then need a break from in order to do again.
I’m one-third of the way through!
